Three canning workshops are being offered by the Department of Urban and Environmental Planning’s 100-Mile Thanksgiving Committee and the Haven at First & Market. Please note the date and time changes:
Location: The Haven at First & Market (112 West Market Street)
Saturday, Nov. 6th, 10:00am-Noon: Apple Butter and Dried Apples
Tuesday, Nov. 16th, 3:00-5:00pm: Apple Butter and Dried Apples
Tuesday, Dec. 7th, 9:30am-11:30am: Greens and Soups
The Haven at First & Market is an amazing facility run by the Thomas Jefferson Area Coalition for the Homeless (TJACH). Open from 7:00am-5:00pm daily, the Haven provides a safe and welcoming place for the homeless to receive vital services and connect with social service providers. It features a gorgeous commercial kitchen where breakfast is prepared daily, and culinary lessons take place. TJACH has gone to great lengths to use locally produced food in the daily menus, in addition to the vegetables grown in TJAC’s own community garden.
All workshops are free to attend, and everyone in the community is welcome. Rides can be arranged if needed, and you will definitely leave with some delicious apple butter of your own! Email me if you’d like to join us for any of the workshops.
