On Saturday, July 18th we attended the Hope Community Center’s Meet Your Neighbors Green Event in Lee Park in dowtown Charlottesville. There were many community organizations there that promote environmentally friendly practices and provided a great place for the garden to be able to network with other gardens and organizations. Here is a link to a news story about the event [http://www.charlottesvillenewsplex.tv/home/headlines/48683227.html].
We had a display and handed out some of that week’s harvest; bush beans, peas and sungold cherry tomatoes. One of the best connections that was made was with the gardener responsible for the Hope Center’s new garden. She is a student in California who grew up in Charlottesville, VA. She is very nervous about the longevity of their garden since she has to go back to school in the fall. I spoke with her and am going to see how our volunteers can be involved with working on their garden as well.
