We’re back in action at the UVA Community Garden! Friday marked our first (unofficial) workday of the semester. A new crop of UVA Community Garden Leaders got together to enjoy the sunshine and spruce things up for our first official workday – coming soon!
We gave our shaggy asparagus a haircut – it’s a perennial so it comes back year after year, but it requires some pruning in the winter before that new spring growth gets underway. Unfortunately, some critters got to our fall plantings of broccoli and purple cabbage before we did. But the green cabbage is still holding strong! Beets and turnips are well on their way to harvest-ready and leafy greens abound…
Most exciting of all, our fall planting of carrots did beautifully all winter long – look at that bountiful harvest!
